Announcement: I entered a painting into the 2019 summer Paintings Art Festival in Nottingham and I am delighted to say that it was accepted!
Like all of you I want people to like my paintings. One way to check whether people like your paintings is to enter competitions. The risk you take is that the judges may or may not like them. The painting will be in the exhibition in July and I hope that someone will love it enough to buy it.
unfortunately I am very aware that what one judge likes another might not. Juried shows are slaves to the likes and dislikes of individual judges. A friend of mine had one of her paintings rejected out of hand in one competition. The painting then went on to win a major prize and to be accepted into a museum.
I feel more confident in mu skills now that a painting that I have created has been entered into and accepted into a exhibition. I intend to enter more competitions but only when I feel I have something worthy of entry.
In the meantime remember – if I can do it then so can you! Enter a competition and see what happens.
How can I help you?
I run small one on one workshops and can provide tuition tailored to suit you. Do please call for a chat about what you are seeking on your artistic journey. Meanwhile “Bonne voyage”.

Congratulations! I’d like to try. How does one find shows to enter?
Hi Kato. I have just learnt how to see comments. 🙂 Patchings is on every year and they advertise such shows in magazines like The Artist.
Hi Allison. I am a “Thready” too… Congratulations on getting your painting accepted at Patchings. I will be going myself and look out for it. They don’t allow photos though…
Hi Kay. I’ve just found out how to see my comments hence my reply to you! I wish I could go but I am painting in Scotland and will miss the show. Let me know if you see it and whether it was well displayed or not. Thank you in advance. Allison
